Strategies for Working from Home
For many of us, our once traditional office workplace jobs have transitioned to work from home jobs for the foreseeable future. This is a reality that is either very exciting or daunting. Either way, we've put together some tips for how to have a successful and productive work day while at home.
Set a Schedule!
When we go to work at a more traditional work place there's a built in schedule; when we have to be there, when we take a break or lunch and when we clock out to go home. When we work from home it's harder to maintain a set schedule. Distractions like laundry, TV and possibly kids or a partner can easily get in the way of being productive. We suggest setting some structure to your day through a work from home schedule! Start with just a few items like a time you'll be up, dressed (even if it's just out of your PJ's and into comfy clothes) and starting work. You can add more items as you go. Below is a helpful form to get you started!
Create a Workspace!
While it may be temping to plop down on the couch with your lap top, chances are you'll end up getting distracted by something. If you're in this work from home thing for the long run, we suggest creating a specific work space so when you're working you're free of distractions. It will also be easier to keep your work life and home/free time separate which is important for your sanity! Your specific workspace doesn't need to be a dedicated office/room, it would even just be a cleared off area on the dining room table.
Take Time for Yourself!
Working from home can be very isolating, especially if you've come from working in an office environment with plenty of other people to interact with. It's important to keep your metal health and well being into account when working from home as well. Take personal time, virtual coffee breaks with coworkers or phone dates to catch up on things other than work. Or set up a socially distant + mask lunch date! If you take care of yourself, it will show in your quality of work.
We hope these tips are helpful!
